Your Word of The Year

Why Power Words Matters More Than Resolutions

If you didn’t do the leadup exercise from last month’s blog and newsletter (see here) – here’s a chance to try something new. For anyone who did dive in, here’s a chance to expand on it.  To make the most of this exercise, make space and be ready to set intention – your 2026 Power Word is meant to be just that – powerful!

As we step into a new year, many people feel the familiar pressure to set big resolutions and overhaul their lives overnight. But there’s a more empowering, sustainable way to begin the year with clarity and intention – one that aligns beautifully with conscious leadership and personal growth. It starts by choosing your 2026 Power Word.

A Power Word is more than a goal. It is an anchor, a compass, and a reminder of who you are becoming. It helps you connect with your deeper purpose and stay grounded in the mindset that will carry you through the year with strength and intention.

Traditional resolutions often fade by February because they rely on willpower alone. Your 2026 Power Word works differently. It shifts your energy from the inside out. Instead of focusing on what you should be doing, it brings attention to how you want to feel – and who you want to be.

This shift is at the heart of conscious leadership. When you intentionally choose a guiding word, you begin to navigate your decisions, boundaries, and goals with far more clarity and confidence. It’s a small practice with a surprisingly transformational impact.

How to Choose Your 2026 Power Word

Choosing your word is a reflective process. A process that invites honesty, hope, and personal vision. These simple prompts will guide you:

1. Reflect on What You Want to Feel

Ask yourself:

  • What emotions do I want to cultivate in 2026?

  • What qualities will support the leader I’m becoming?

  • Where am I craving more ease, growth, or courage?

Let the feelings guide the word.

2. Release What No Longer Serves You

Your Power Word should pull you forward, not keep you tied to old patterns. Consider:

  • What held me back last year?

  • What habits or beliefs am I ready to outgrow?

Your word should feel like a new chapter – not a continuation of the old story.

3. Brainstorm and Notice What Resonates

Write down five to ten words.
Notice which one feels expansive, grounding, or energizing.
Your word should:

  • Inspire you

  • Challenge you (gently)

  • Feel aligned with your highest vision

Some great guiding words from past clients include: Rise, Clarity, Ease, Strength, Unshakeable, Embody, Trust, Shift, and Expansion.

How to Live Into Your 2026 Power Word All Year

A Power Word only becomes powerful when you integrate it into daily life. Here are simple practices to keep your 2026 Power Word active:

  • Use it as your morning journaling prompt

  • Display it on your desk or home screen

  • Return to it when making decisions

  • Ask yourself weekly: Am I embodying my word?

The most meaningful transformation happens through these small, consistent moments of alignment.

Your 2026 Power Word and the Leader You Are Becoming

Choosing your 2026 Power Word is ultimately an act of self-leadership. It asks you to be intentional, self-aware, and aligned – a combination that fuels personal and professional growth.

If you’re ready to deepen this work, gain clarity on your goals, or step into a more confident and empowered version of yourself, coaching can help you bridge the gap between intention and action.

Prioritizing Mental Wellness – How to Re-Centre Starting Today

Prioritizing Mental Wellness – How to Re-Centre Starting Today

World Mental Health Day on October 10th is more than a date on the calendar – it’s a global invitation to start prioritizing mental wellness. With stress, burnout, and uncertainty on the rise, making mental wellness a daily practice is no longer optional; it’s essential. We see firsthand how small, consistent actions can help people return to their centre and build resilience. Get more mental wellness tips and tools from The Positive Change. If you’re struggling with burnout, be sure to request your copy of the free e-book download here.

According to the World Health Organization, one in eight people worldwide live with a mental health condition. Yet most of us don’t pause to reflect on our own wellbeing until a crisis hits. This October, consider World Mental Health Day your reminder to bring prioritizing mental wellness into your daily life.

1. Why Prioritizing Mental Wellness Matters

The pace of modern life, hybrid work, and constant digital connectivity mean our nervous systems rarely get a break. Without intentional recovery, stress compounds and affects sleep, focus, and relationships. Leaders and employees alike are recognizing that prioritizing mental wellness is not just self-care – it’s foundational to long-term performance, health, and happiness.

2. Signs It’s Time to Re-Centre

If you’re experiencing chronic stress, disrupted sleep, irritability, or a sense of emotional “numbness,” your mind and body are asking for attention. The good news: you don’t need a total life overhaul. Simple, Gestalt-inspired practices can help you return to your centre quickly and effectively.

3. Gestalt-Inspired Tips for Prioritizing Mental Wellness

Gestalt therapy emphasizes awareness of the present moment – body, mind, and environment. Here are three simple ways to start prioritizing mental wellness right now:

  • Ground in Sensation: Pause and notice your breath, your feet on the floor, or the temperature of the air. This anchors you in the here and now.

  • Name Your Experience: Silently describe what you’re feeling (“tight chest”, “racing thoughts”) without judging it. Naming helps release the charge.

  • Complete the Loop: If you notice unfinished emotions (frustration, sadness), take a safe action to complete them; journal, move your body, or have an honest conversation.

For more ideas, check out our 5-Step Self-Guided Healing Rituals or explore Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction for structured practices.

4. Building a Culture Around Prioritizing Mental Wellness

Whether at home or at work, normalizing mental wellness conversations creates psychological safety and resilience. Leaders who model boundaries, share their self-care practices, and provide access to mental health resources address prioritizing mental wellness proactively rather than reactively. Even small steps like instituting no-meeting blocks or encouraging unplugged breaks can shift a culture.

Conclusion: Make Mental Wellness a Daily Habit

World Mental Health Day is a perfect moment to pause and reflect. But the real transformation comes from prioritizing mental wellness every day, not just once a year. By weaving Gestalt-inspired practices into your routine and encouraging others to do the same, you support your wellbeing and help create a ripple effect of healthier workplaces and communities.

Planting New Seeds: Cultivating A Prosperous Money Mindset

Planting News Seeds: Cultivating a Prosperous Money Mindset

We are in a season of renewal – a season to plant seeds for what we want to grow. While we often focus on health or goals during this season, it’s also the perfect time to nurture something equally important: your relationship with money.

Much like a garden, your financial wellness requires attention, intention, and belief. If you’ve been feeling stuck in scarcity or weighed down by money stress, this is your invitation to clear the soil and start fresh.

Step 1: Clear Money Blocks and Old Beliefs

Before new growth can occur, you must release outdated beliefs like:

  • “Money is hard to come by.”

  • “I’m just not good with finances.”

  • “Wealth isn’t meant for me.”

These limiting money beliefs (also called money blocks) are like weeds. Replace them with empowering money affirmations like:

  • “I attract financial opportunities with ease.”

  • “I am capable of growing lasting wealth.”

Step 2: Set Intentional Financial Goals

Strong roots need rich soil. Ask yourself:

What do I want money to do for me?

  • Create freedom?

  • Fund travel or passion projects?

  • Support my family or community?

Financial intentions are the foundation for sustainability . Be clear and write it down. Intentional goals root deeper and grow stronger for more dramatic money growth.

Step 3: Take Small, Inspired Actions

Every big financial transformation begins with one small step:

  • Start budgeting mindfully

  • Open a savings or investment account

  • Educate yourself on money management

  • Begin a passion-driven side hustle

Remember: consistency beats perfection.

Step 4: Water Your Worthiness

Money flows best when paired with a deep sense of self-worth.
You are worthy of abundance – not someday, but right now.

“I am open to receiving money in expected and unexpected ways.”

Daily affirmations, gratitude journaling, or mindset coaching can help you shift from lack to abundance.

Step 5: Nourish Your Growth

Check in weekly or monthly. Track your progress without judgment. Be patient. Like a garden, financial wellness takes time to flourish. But your efforts will grow into something beautiful.

Final Thought

This spring, plant new financial seeds. Nurture them with care, intention, and belief in your ability to thrive. The abundance you seek is already within you – waiting to bloom.

Spring Clean Your Mind – Reset, Refresh and Renew

Spring Clean Your Mind

After a long winter, we could all use some renewal to awaken our best self.  Practicing mindfulness techniques can help clear the clutter and dust away mental cobwebs.  We do it for our homes and gardens but what about our minds?  As the warmer weather approaches, we’re sharing some tips to refresh, reset and renew; to spring clean your mind and step into the season with more energy and clarity.

1. Clear Out Mental Clutter

Much like sorting through a cluttered closet, it’s essential to assess the thoughts and habits that no longer serve you. Ask yourself:

  • What thought patterns are holding me back?

  • What worries or regrets am I carrying that I no longer need?

  • Where can I shift my focus to bring more positivity into my life?

Try journaling or meditation to bring awareness to mental clutter and let go of unnecessary baggage.  With a clear mind, you’re ready for a refresh.

2. Refresh Your Daily Routine

Winter may have left you feeling sluggish or stuck in a routine that no longer energizes you. Spring is an opportunity to shake things up:

  • Start your mornings with intentional movement like stretching, yoga, or a brisk walk.

  • Nourish yourself with fresh, seasonal foods that boost your energy.

  • Incorporate mindfulness practices into your day, like deep breathing or gratitude reflection.

A small shift in your routine can have a big impact on your mindset and mood.

3. Detox Your Digital Space

We spend so much time online that digital clutter can feel just as overwhelming as physical mess. Try a digital detox to create mental space:

  • Unfollow accounts that don’t uplift you.

  • Limit screen time, especially before bed.

  • Organize your emails and delete old files.

Less digital noise allows more room for real-life connection and clarity.

4. Let Go of Emotional Baggage

Spring cleaning isn’t just about discarding old items—it’s also about emotional release. Take a moment to acknowledge any lingering feelings of resentment, frustration, or sadness. Consider:

  • Writing a letter (even if you don’t send it) to release unspoken emotions.

  • Practicing forgiveness, both for yourself and others.

  • Engaging in self-care rituals that soothe and replenish you, such as a warm bath, massage, or nature walk.

Emotional clarity brings lightness and a sense of renewal.

5. Plant New Seeds for Growth

With a refreshed mind, you can now focus on growth. Just as flowers bloom in spring, you can nurture new habits, ideas, and aspirations:

  • Set one or two meaningful goals for the season ahead.

  • Surround yourself with positive influences who uplift and inspire you.

  • Embrace curiosity—read a new book, take a class, or explore a hobby.

By planting new seeds, you’ll cultivate a mindset that flourishes throughout the year.

A Fresh Start Awaits

Spring cleaning your mind isn’t about perfection; it’s about making space for clarity, peace, and new possibilities. By clearing mental clutter, refreshing your routines, and embracing emotional renewal, you’ll step into the season with a lighter heart and a rejuvenated spirit.

So take a deep breath, welcome the fresh air, and give yourself the mental refresh, reset and renewal you deserve. 🌿

Leading With Heart

Changes in Leadership

Dramatic changes in the world over the past decade have resulted in a changing workforce.  We are in a time when emotional health is at the forefront of everything we do, including how we perform at work as leaders, teachers, and mentors and at home as parents.  As a result, what we need out of people in leadership roles has changed as well.  Fundamentally, this means out leaders need to adapt to thrive.

The Power of Compassion in Leadership

In a world that often prioritizes profit, efficiency, and data-driven decisions, leading with heart is not just a refreshing approach to leadership, but a necessary one.  Compassionate leadership is not about being overly emotional or making decisions solely based on feelings—it’s about fostering connection, understanding, and a culture where people feel valued and inspired to give their best.

The Essence of Heart-Centered Leadership

Leading with heart means leading with authenticity, empathy, and integrity. It requires a deep awareness of one’s own values and a commitment to fostering growth in themselves and others. The heart-centered leader is one who understands their own emotional compass and is brave to do their own inner work and healing. Leaders who lead with heart prioritize relationships, recognize the humanity in their teams, and create an environment where trust and psychological safety thrive.

Why Compassion Matters in Leadership

  1. Stronger Team Connection – Employees who feel seen and heard are more engaged and loyal.

  2. Increased Productivity – When people feel valued, they are more motivated to contribute.

  3. Resilience in Challenges – Compassionate leaders inspire teams to navigate adversity with courage and unity.

  4. Positive Organizational Culture – A heart-centered leader cultivates a workplace where kindness and collaboration flourish.

The Lasting Impact

Leaders who lead with heart don’t just build successful businesses—they build thriving communities. Their legacy is not only in revenue and results but in the people whose lives they’ve touched. When compassion and leadership intertwine, the result is a workplace that fosters both personal and professional growth.

Are you ready to lead with heart? Learn all this and more in Julie’s newest book “The Heart Centered Leader”.

Leading with heart creates your BIGGEST impact

Being able to lead with heart sounds easy and can be!  To maximize impact, it’s important to practice self care – which, admittedly, can be difficult in the depths of a cold and dreary winter.   That’s why I’ve prepared some great tips to help get you into the right headspace so you can be your best heart-centered leader!

  1. Nourish from Within – Enjoy seasonal superfoods like citrus, dark chocolate, and warming herbal teas to support your mood and immunity. 🍊🍵

  2. Move Your Body, Boost Your Mind – Whether it’s yoga, pilates, or a brisk winter walk, staying active helps shake off sluggishness. 🏋️‍♀️❄️

  3. Get Social, Stay Connected – Combat isolation with cozy get-togethers, wellness retreats, or spa days with friends. Laughter is the best therapy! 🥂💆‍♀️

  4. Glow Up with Self-Care – Treat yourself to hydrating facials, body treatments, or an at-home spa night. Your skin (and soul) will thank you. ✨🧖‍♀️

  5. Embrace the Light – Maximize daylight exposure, open your curtains, or try light therapy to keep your energy levels up. ☀️

  6. Find Your Cozy Ritual – Whether it’s journaling, reading, or mindful meditation, create a daily ritual that brings you warmth and joy. 📖🕯️
